It is slightly bigger than a deck of cards and takes a simple 9 volt battery. I skimmed through the instructions because I'm not "pregnant" and I don't intend to "use this device internally". My wife helped me apply the pads although I think I could manage this myself. The cool thing is....there are four pads! It's like having two TENS units at once! There are a few adjustments that change the rhythm and duration of the pulses. However, the two dials on the top increase the intensity. On for each set of pads. They begin at "off" and go up to #8. I was afraid that the little device would barely be noticeable at full power. Nevertheless, I started off at #1 and worked my way up. I'm a tough guy. I even been shot with a TASER at work. But at #3, I was really feeling it! #4 made my muscles jump and was overkill for my normal stiffness. The coolest feature is the multiple mode settings. With the flip of a switch, you can have burst, normal, or modulation. I am really amazed at this little guy. It's cheap, has a long battery life (like 50 hours), works great, and is easily used.
